These work perfectly. If you've never had or tried one, or seen one and were curious...it works better than what they say on tv. You can also put this in the refrigerator and set something on top to thaw. I don't believe that's the intended use, but it still works. I'm not going to leave uncovered food out on my counter. Buy it and see!
My daughter moved out on her own and she mentioned that this was one kitchen aid that she wished that she had packed with her (so I bought this one for her). Although it is certainly not a "miracle" as the old title suggested, it really does shorten the time it takes for items to defrost. The metal plate seems to pull (or diffuse) the coldness from the frozen food. I can thaw a pound of frozen hamburger, in the package, in about 40 minutes. When we first got one years ago, my daughter and I conducted a comparison test. We placed 1 lb. of hamburger on the defroster tray and 1 lb of hamburger on the counter. The one on the counter took almost twice as long to defrost than the one on the defroster tray. This is one kitchen tool I use rather frequently, as it works well for me.
Wow! This product does the job super fast! Its thermal conductivity is very high, but its effectiveness depends on surface area. We use it for flat (or flattened) meats, like chicken breast and pork chops so it is fantastic for us! For meats without a lot of surface area in contact with the board, it's not so useful... Highly recommended!
I remember seeing this on TV. My wife and I had the same thought "yeah right". Turns out I'm eating my own words.
Not it doesn't quickly unfreeze everything in minutes. Anyone who was awake in their high school science class understands that it is drawing the cold temp away from the meat. It is not a quick reaction but it does speed up the defrosting. Since it does speed up the defrosting, I recommend it. Just don't think it'll defrost within heartbeats.
This works as advertised and thaws meat and chicken a lot faster than putting it in a sinkful of cold water. Be sure to place some paper towels under it, though, because it makes puddles in no time at all. Or, you can put this in an empty sink before you put the meat on it and let the water drain away. It works just as well with the meat still in a zippered freezer bag, but not so good if the meat is still on the styrofoam tray.
Was very wary of this would work but after reading some reviews I figured I’d give a try. I have a lot of frozen meats and can never defrost them in time during my lunch hour. Gave it a try today. Placed a frozen wrapped steak on the tray, and it was completely defrosted in an hour or so. It would have easily taken me 5+ hours to defrost that. I’ve left steaks in my sink before and going back to work at 12 coming back at 4 it would still be frozen on the inside. I haven’t used it with multiple items on the tray yet, but so far it’s working very well. Big thumbs up!!
